Child labour, sweatshops, global warming, deforestation: Many European governments believe that consumers will eventually reward companies that do what is in their power to solve these issues. If consumers purchased products and services exclusively from companies that comply with renowned and widely accepted CSR standards, unsustainable or irresponsible enterprises would cease to exist. However, at present, even those consumers who wish to make a difference are often unable to exercise critical choice because they do not have sufficient access to information on the conditions under which products are made.
