The General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) came into being in Marrakesh, Morrocco on April 15, 1994 and was put into force on January 1, 1995. It is one of the many sub-agreements that are administered by the World Trade Organization (WTO); its aim is to establish a set of global trading rules for service industries.
