EU must lead in establishing binding instruments against corporate misconduct
In this joint letter, a coalition of European civil society organisations (including SOMO) requested a meeting with vice-president Frans Timmermans to discuss the need for a UN binding treaty to ensure that companies involved in human rights violations can be held accountable and that victims of corporate abuses have access to justice.

The coalition believes that the EU should play a leading role in ensuring business respect for human rights and the environment, including through binding regional and international instruments. A European Union that works to protect people’s rights and the public interest, rather than disproportionately protects corporate profits and private interests, will be an important issue for citizens in the EU elections.
