Human rights organisation ECCHR and Dutch law firm Prakken d’Oliveira have petitioned the Dutch Public Prosecutor to launch a criminal investigation into garment companies for complicity in the exploitation and enslavement of Uighurs in the Chinese province of Xinjiang.

This week, ECCHR and Prakken d’Oliveira announced that they have submitted a formal request to that effect, based on their own investigation, to the Public Prosecutor.

SOMO welcomes this step. Companies must be held accountable for human rights violations in their supply chains.
