Call to release Daw Myo Aye from Myanmar

We have serious concerns about the safety and wellbeing of Daw Myo Aye (also known as Myo Myo), leader of Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM), who has been detained since April by the military and held in Insein, a prison notorious for human rights abuses. She has diabetes and is believed to be in a critical condition and being held in solitary confinement with no visitors allowed. The Prison Officer is not passing on her medication, and even her lawyer has not been permitted access to see her during the semi-lockdown in the prison, which has been ongoing for three months. We call for Daw Myo Aye’s immediate release.

Last week SOMO and the Clean Clothes Campaign sent this letter to the Dutch embassy in Myanmar asking:
