Intense lobbying of Dutch Cabinet by corporate interests
Recent events surrounding the Dutch dividend tax have made it abundantly clear: with strong enough lobbying, you can eliminate taxes totalling 1.4 billion euros.
Therefore, for LobbywatchNL -a Dutch consortium to make lobbying more transparent -SOMO investigated which interest organisations paid visits to various ministers since the start of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s third term. As expected, things are seriously out of balance.
The investigation found that the VNO-NCW (Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers) held more lobbying discussions with Rutte’s Third-Cabinet ministers than any other interest organisation.
