Audrey Gaughran

Executive Director

Audrey took up the role as SOMO’s Executive Director in 2021. She is responsible for overall strategy the management of the organisation. She represents SOMO on the steering committee of the Fair, Green and Global Alliance and the board of the European Coalition for Corporate Justice.

For the past 25 years, she has worked as an human rights and environmental advocate in roles at Amnesty International, the Natural Resource Governance Institute and a number of grassroots environmental organisations.  As Director of Global Issues at Amnesty International, Gaughran has led teams of investigators, lawyers and campaigners working on economic and social rights, global arms trade, corporate accountability, the death penalty, refugee and migrant rights and technology and human rights.

Audrey has written extensively on the human rights impacts of multinational companies and investment frameworks. She has wide-ranging experience as a human rights investigator and has carried out investigations in more than a dozen countries, from Ireland to Nigeria, Qatar to Indonesia.

Audrey originally trained as a journalist in her native Ireland. She also holds post graduate qualifications in Human Rights from the University of London (UK) and environmental science from the Open University (UK).
