From 23 to 27 October, the Human Right Council of the United Nations will start negotiating the text of an international legally binding instrument on transnational corporations and other business enterprises with respect to human rights.

On October 2th, the elements (or building blocks) for such a binding Treaty were published by the open-ended Inter-Governmental Working Group (IGWG), which is tasked with coordinating the treaty process. In response to this publication, a group on European NGO’s drafted a statement calling upon European States to prepare for and constructively engage in the upcoming negotiations. SOMO undersigned this statement.
