voorgestelde wet die het \u201cverheerlijken van terrorisme\u201d en het openbaar steunen van \u201cterroristische organisaties\u201d strafbaar stelt. Dat terrorisme een bedreiging kan zijn voor de Nederlandse samenleving, is niet te betwisten. Maar het wetsvoorstel zien wij absoluut niet als manier om de samenleving als geheel te beschermen. Sterker nog, vormt de wet naar ons inzien juist een bedreiging voor mensen die zich inzetten voor vrede en rechtvaardigheid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wat houdt \u201copenbare verheerlijking van terrorisme\u201d en \u201copenbaar steun betuigen aan terroristische organisaties\u201d precies in? Het wetsvoorstel komt niet verder dan het benoemen van \u00e9\u00e9n concreet voorbeeld: \u201cHet openbaar zwaaien met een vlag van de terroristische organisatie Islamitische Staat (IS)\u201d. Doordat het zeer onduidelijk blijft wat er onder de wet als strafbaar feit zal worden gezien, ontstaat er een enorm grijs gebied met veel ruimte voor het criminaliseren van onschuldige burgers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dit is een actueel gevaar rondom de aanhoudende genocide in Gaza. Politici hebben solidariteit met de Palestijnen onterecht en herhaaldelijk bestempeld als steun aan een een terroristische organisatie. Dit is slechts \u00e9\u00e9n voorbeeld van een volstrekt onschuldige actie die bij invoering van de wet strafbaar zou kunnen worden gesteld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wat in Nederland voorlopig nog geen werkelijkheid is, is dat in het Verenigd Koninkrijk wel. Daar is een dergelijke antiterrorismewet al langer van kracht, met alle gevolgen van dien. Onlangs is actiegroep Palestine Action \u2013 die onder meer actie voert tegen wapenfabrikanten die zaken doen met Isra\u00ebl \u2013 onder deze bestaande wet bestempeld als terroristische beweging. De boodschap van de actievoerders, zoals te lezen was op talloze protestborden: \u201cStop de genocide\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antiterrorismewetgeving, zoals het wetsvoorstel dat in Nederland op tafel ligt, is kenmerkend voor autoritaire regimes. Het zet de deur open voor politieke vervolging en censuur, en ondermijnt de democratische rechtsstaat. Die kant moeten we als samenleving niet op. SOMO sluit zich daarom aan bij de duizenden mensenrechtenorganisaties, activisten, juristen en bezorgde burgers die hun zorgen al hebben geuit, en pleit voor het intrekken van het
