Waarom Nokia? Het bedrijf is een leidende speler in de mobiele sector in India. Om je een idee te geven van de omvang van Nokia in India: de fabriek in Sriperumbudur is Nokia\u2019s grootste fabriek ter wereld.<\/p>\n<p>Zoals het rapport laat zien, maakt dit \u201cindustri\u00eble relaties bij Nokia in India van cruciaal belang\u201d. Een van de leveranciers die het SOMO-rapport noemt is Foxconn \u2013 waarvan de Chinese fabriekstak door haar hoge <a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aziatischetijger.nl\/2011\/05\/02\/anti-zelfmoord-contract-voor-foxconn-medewerkers\/\">zelfmoordcijfers<span class=\"sr-only\">(opens in new window)<\/span> <span class=\"icon inline-block ml-1 w-[0.875em]\"><svg width=\"24\" height=\"25\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 25\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\"><path d=\"M15.75 1.748a.75.75 0 0 1 .75-.75h6.75a.748.748 0 0 1 .524.213l.013.013c.132.135.213.32.213.524v6.75a.75.75 0 0 1-1.5 0v-4.94L8.78 17.279a.75.75 0 1 1-1.06-1.06l13.72-13.72H16.5a.75.75 0 0 1-.75-.75Z\" fill=\"currentColor\"\/><path d=\"M2.25 5.498A2.25 2.25 0 0 0 0 7.748v15a2.25 2.25 0 0 0 2.25 2.25h15a2.25 2.25 0 0 0 2.25-2.25v-9a.75.75 0 0 0-1.5 0v9a.75.75 0 0 1-.75.75h-15a.75.75 0 0 1-.75-.75v-15a.75.75 0 0 1 .75-.75h9a.75.75 0 0 0 0-1.5h-9Z\" fill=\"currentColor\"\/><\/svg>\n<\/span><\/a> onder het personeel smartphonegrootheid Apple al eerder in een kwaad daglicht stelde.<\/p>\n<p><strong>De bevindingen in het kort<\/strong><br \/>SOMO heeft ontdekt dat ongeveer 50 procent van de arbeiders van Nokia in India (inclusief de arbeiders die werken voor de Indiase leveranciers van Nokia) \u00f3f een tijdelijk contract hebben, \u00f3f werken als zogenaamde \u2018trainees\u2019 (werknemers in opleiding). Geen van deze statussen geeft ze recht op een gelijk loon, gelijke bescherming, of gelijke carri\u00e8remogelijkheden als de vaste medewerkers in de fabrieken.<\/p>\n<p>In haar blogpost bij het rapport, zegt SOMO dat het loon van de meeste werknemers bij de onderzochte fabrieken \u201cover het algemeen net boven het minimum loon van 56 euro per maand ligt. Maar, volgens de werknemers moet een leefbaar loon tussen de 145-240 euro per maand zijn. Met dat geld kunnen zij een eigen kamer huren en een gezin onderhouden\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>De vaste medewerkers zijn beschermd door een vakbond die na lange onderhandeling in de laatste jaren zowel door Nokia als Foxconn is erkend. De lonen van deze groep arbeiders zijn hierdoor sterk verbeterd \u2013 Nokia\u2019s werknemers hebben hun lonen in de afgelopen jaren zien stijgen tot ver boven het minimumloon. SOMO merkt hierbij op dat deze situatie meer uitzondering is dan regel. Het is niet duidelijk in hoeverre leden van de vakbond representatief zijn voor het totale werknemersbestand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wat is de ranking van Nokia?<\/strong><br \/>Zodra we dit rapport lazen, hebben we de score van Nokia in onze ranking er nog eens op nageslagen. Op het gebied van milieu en klimaat scoort het bedrijf erg goed (respectievelijk 6 uit 7 en 4 uit 5). Op het gebied van mensenrechten stelt de score teleur: 2 uit 6.<\/p>\n<p>In de gedragscode voor leveranciers heeft Nokia enkel de minimale standaarden inbegrepen: geen kinderarbeid, veilige en hygi\u00ebnische arbeidsomstandigheden, geen discriminatie. De code zegt niets over het maximum toegestane aantal uren werk, of een fatsoenlijk salaris. Daarbij rapporteert het bedrijf ook niet of de leveranciers helemaal voldoet aan de minimale standaarden waar het Finse bedrijf om vraagt.<\/p>\n<p>Dit is overigens niet de eerste keer dat SOMO oneerlijke arbeidsomstandigheden rapporteert in Nokia\u2019s productieketen. In 2006 publiceerde SOMO het rapport High Cost of Calling. Dit rapport toont misstanden in Chinese, Thaise, Filippijnse en Indiase fabrieken van de vijf grootste mobiele telefoonbedrijven: Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG.<\/p>\n<p>Nokia was een van de weinige bedrijven die een reactie gaf op het rapport (lees <a class=\"external-link\" href=\"..\/files\/somo-response-to-nokia-comments\">hier <\/a>SOMO\u2019s reactie).
